'AP: Tennessee leads the nation in painkiller prescription increase (WMCTV Memphis)A study by The Associated Press shows the number of prescriptions for painkillers in Tennessee went up by 206 percent between 1997 to 2005. Prescription painkiller use also increased nationally during that time, but by a much more modest 90 percent. Among the high-powered painkillers included are oxycodone, codeine, hydrocodone, morphine and meperdine.
